Maintaining Bronze Memorials
Over the years the memorial you installed will patina, losing its bright
original finish. Patina is a natural oxidation process which occurs to bronze as
it ages. The color and rate of patina development varies depending on local
atmospheric, weather and soil conditions.
In the past many memorials were
installed without a protective granite foundation to retard grass and soil
encroachment, further accelerating the rate of patina development.
Many people prefer to preserve their memorial's original finish. This is especially true when a patinaed memorial has a new scroll installed at the time of need. When this occurs there is usually an awkward color contrast between the memorial and the newly affixed scroll.
With procedures now available, it is simple and inexpensive to resurface a bronze memorial. By returning your memorial to its bright lustrous, original finish, you retain the peace of mind of knowing your memory, love and devotion are protected into the future.
To further protect your newly resurfaced memorial it should be reinstalled on
a granite foundation. Granite is the perfect complement for bronze. Granite is
non-porous, dense, stain-resistant and will not flake or
deteriorate. A solid
granite foundation couples with a bright, newly resurfaced memorial will ensure
the beauty of your memorial and your devotion for many years to come.
